nyc engagement: beverly + mike

originally from sunny florida, beverly and mike recently moved up to nyc. with the odd weather we’ve been having in the city, the leaves were not turning as they usually do. i felt bad because out of many fun emails back and forth, that was the one part beverly wanted to capture. the lack of foliage pushed me even more to make sure this was going to be a shoot for them to remember.
they were engaged, they were happy, and they were in love…
based on just how much fun we had, i’d say… that was more than enough.

we started by astoria park in well, astoria queens…

then we headed over to gantry plaza state park in LIC…

the gantry plaza state park in long island city is such a harmonious juxtaposition of the industrial and nature, urban and rural, the organized chaos of city life and the calm breeze in the park… i could shoot here all day.

this last shot was especially my fave because it was a product of hard work and lots of discussions of what beverly envisioned the shoot to be. beverly knew she wanted a sunset shot. we set up a timeline and really stuck to it. nothin’ like a natural sun glare…

NYC Engagement: Christine and Connor

Christine and Connor were a delight from the start. While planning their engagement session, Christine and I bonded over what most girls can spend hours chatting about… shoes. We discussed outfits, thoughtfully anticipating any cold or wetness these late months bring like a good girl scout. The weeks before brought massive amounts of rain, gusting winds, hell… hurricane Irene swung by… but just like that, gorgeous weather made a pit stop in Manhattan. It was gorgeous! I mean 75 degrees, no humidity, skies with little patches of stunning clouds… perfect. While I know the Flatiron District like the back of my hand, I showed up 45 minutes early anyway… just to look for that angle I just didn’t see before. As I was walking around, I get a little buzz. It’s Christine and Connor, and they’re early. Now here’s the thing… I take lots of things personal. Like a client on time, isn’t simply that they’re good at timing their commute, it means to me that they respect me, cherish my time, and are eager to get the best photographs possible. Clients that are early… make my insides swoon with glee.

And so we began by the Flatiron building…

This next photo was taken through Gwyneth’s Full Cup Installation. Check it out sometime…

That outfit… not exatly the one we planned for weeks, but was most certainly gorge. That silk sheath dress with those blue Christian Louboutins… sigh.

We jumped in a cab to head over to the Highline.

NYC Engagement: Mara + Paul

Mara and Paul love two things: Yankees and… each other. While I’m not too sure how the met or how their relationship began, I do know this… they’re crazy about each other. At the end of our shoot, Mara and Paul invited me over for fajitas. Paul said he had marinated enough for all of us and I was smitten. Besides being able to eat a kick-ass meal, I got a chance to see what Mara and Paul were like in their humble abode. It wasn’t the obvious love for one another that got me all gushy inside, no. It was their friendship. When you’ve found somebody you love and know that you want to spend the rest of your lives together, you’re lucky. But when you’ve found someone you can totally cherish and wholeheartedly respect, well then you’re just blessed.

We started at their home and then to Madison Square Park, taking over Midtown Manhattan, one photo at a time.

And last but not least, my favorite pic of the day…

So happy for you both! Congratulations on the engagement!
